More on the Haworth Press situation

June 30, 2006

I saw this further information about the Haworth Press situation on SERIALST, the primary discussion list for those who work with serials.  I’ve provided embedded links to two of the archiving initiatives to which Chuck Hamaker refers, fyi.  We will talk a bit about them later in the course because they are very important (and relatively recent) initiatives:

I’ve had a note from Bill Cohen, publisher of Haworth Press Inc. indicating their offices in Binghamton are very close to the river, and as a result the basement of the building was flooded. The power grid was turned off  and phone service collapsed. The servers are safe, on the second floor, and as power went off, they went on battery back-up and are now working on restoring access. The content of the server is duplicated elsewhere, and there are multiple back-ups. Haworth is considering both Portico and CLOCKSS, for permanent archiving.  I’ll pass on any updates I receive.
